This mid-century modern house is currently for sale in Denver, Colorado. And it is a lovely mid-century specimen. But needs some tender love & care on the inside. image from: milehimodern.com It sort of reminds me of a school built in the 1960′s… or my former obstetrician’s office...

I am doing a lot of drive-by house-hunting lately. My house is not on the market but I’m anticipating a move sometime in the next year since there are several factors that may require us to relocate a little closer to Denver (that’s where Lupe’s company is based). But rather than continually pestering my realtor friends, we just settle for “drive-by” house-hunting until we are really serious about finding a place. My type of drive-by house-hunting is a tad more involved than it sounds. It entails researching where a house is located (the neighborhood) and if it is vacant or not. If it is vacant, then the drive-by can become more of a window-shopping type of outing...

image from: tripadvisor.com This darling cottage is located in Portland, Maine. It is actually a vacation rental so there are tons of pictures of it online. “Bright, sunny and spotlessly clean, this fabulously-appointed beach house features delightful ocean views and a highly sought-after location. This charming, fully-renovated cottage is in the Town Landing neighborhood of Falmouth Foreside, rated ‘The most prestigious neighborhood in Maine’...

photo credit: Sarah Felix Burns Probably the most common thing that I dream about is houses. Last night I had a dream that my sister and I were climbing up on a ladder to see the roof of a house and we got caught by the police. I had just wanted to see what material the roof was made of on some random house so I dragged my sister and a ladder along and just crawled right on up. (This is a dream, remember). But of course, we got caught. And arrested. The cop laughed when I told him that I just really loved houses and that I was going to take pictures of the roof for my house blog...

image from: realtor.com I don’t know what the full story is behind this massive 5,099 square foot log home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, but it was built in 2007 – obviously with no expense spared – and the realtor says it was “never lived in”. It is an estate sale so it was probably not a happy ending for the (former) owner/seller. But this place is so magnificent, I had to give it some attention. (Not to mention that it is built from “Canadian full round log”.) If you are a fan of log cabins, you would be in hog heaven here: image from: realtor.com This log masterpiece is priced at $1,325,000. It has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Some of the luxury features: “Wine cellar, clean in-floor heat, central vac, wet bar in the lower level theater/game room, steam room for 8 and 4 car garage...

You’ve seen those little old one or two-room school houses converted and rehabbed into cozy homes. But how about an entire highschool to live in! Complete with your own gymnasium!!! This place is awesome! image from: oldhouses.com Located in Neponset, Illinois, this building measures in at 13,000 [that's 13 THOUSAND] square feet situated on over 2 acres of land and is FOR SALE for the phenomenal price of $155,000! The property taxes in 2010 were all of $240! (what!?!?!) Now there’s not much that could get me to move from Colorado, but this may be the place! My kids would go crazy over the gym: image from: oldhouses.com And I’m crazy about the historic space converted into living space! image from: oldhouses.com All those high ceilings and huge windows!...

image from: www.selltoronto.com/toronto-neighbourhoods/the-beach-real-estate When I went to graduate school in Toronto Ontario, I had the opportunity to live on the top two floors of this historic home in the prestigious and funky Beaches neighborhood. Unfortunately, it was about the worst two years I have ever spent anywhere in my life. But it was a neat house and I was lucky that my aunt and I were able to rent it for a short period of time. Here’s what the exterior looked like when I lived there about a decade ago: photo credit: Sarah Felix Burns And here is what it looks like now: image from: www.blogto.com Very similar on the exterior. My bedroom was the west facing room with the Palladian windows on the right (above)...

Cave dwellings have been around forever. Since at least, well, Fred Flintstone’s era anyway. But they are not very common in our modern age. You hardly ever see those things anymore. So when I came across the Beckham Creek Cave Lodge, I was awestruck. image from: www.vagabondish.com Located near Jasper, Arkansas, this cave lodge is right in the heart of Ozark country. image from: beckhamcavelodge.com This place is really built right into a cave – there’s no other way to put it. You will be touching rock when you go feeling around for the bathroom light. image from: beckhamcavelodge.com “Caving at its finest! Enjoy a weekend away in this luxurious cave house!...
